Málaga TO Almogía
Cycling route
A short cycling trip to the town of Almogia, which in free translation from Moorish means "the nice one”. Not surprising when you get to the place and look at it from the mirador.

A short cycling trip to the town of Almogia, which in free translation from Moorish means "the nice one”. Not surprising when you get to the place and look at it from the mirador.
Our cycling route to Almogia is perfect for a road bike as the pavement is in very good condition for most parts of the route, and the roads we take are not very crowded with cars.
But right before enjoying we must leave the city. In order to do that we will take northeast directions through Calle Marmoles first and Avenida Carlos Haya later on. The road is straight without any deviation and the fastest way to get out of the city; however, it has traffic and many stops due to the traffic lights. It’s a small price to pay for the free movement and solitude we’ll find as cycling enthusiasts in the area of Almogía
As soon as we leave the city, we get to smaller roads with barely any traffic at all. Turn to “Los Nuñez” by taking the A-7058 in the direction of Almogia.
Arriving at “Los Nuñez” Hamlet starts the climb. Don’t be scared of the first slopes of the day, they are possibly the hardest ones but they will not last for long. Keep focus on finding a smooth pace that will pull you away from this uphill to later on increase speed as you go.
The climb zigzags over a hill surrounded by olive and almond trees. The road keeps elevating turn by turn demanding our effort. The nice views and the place quietness make up for the hardest moments until we finally conquer the top of the hill. There is a short descent and within a minute you can turn into Almogía.
Almogia is just half way the whole course. It is set upon a ridged slope, and from the main avenue dozens of streets articulate as in a labyrinth, with whitewashed houses all around and rugged pave because of the steep slope. The best place to have a coffee is plaza de la constitución, right in front of the Town Hall.
Energy-filled, we get back to the road. Exiting Almogia, you can find on the left side of the road a water font to fill up the bottles, while a little bit further is the beautiful lookout mentioned before, the best place to take a picture of this beautiful town.
Returning to the same road we arrived at Almogia, we followed the road (without turning to the previously climbed hill) MA-3402 in the direction of Malaga, letting us enjoy a pleasant and quiet descent with beautiful views to the Casasola reservoir.
