The destination of this cycling trip is the region of Axarquia. A place surrounded by endless beaches, cliffs, valleys and mountains which, combined with an exceptional climate, make this area a must in your cycling holidays.

The destination of this cycling trip is the region of Axarquia. A place surrounded by endless beaches, cliffs, valleys and mountains which, combined with an exceptional climate, make this area a must in your cycling holidays.
From the beginning we will have the sea and the beach as companions during most part of the tour. As we leave the city behind our wheels, we will be passing through several coastal towns to reach some of the most calm and less touristic beaches of Malaga province.
Our road bike will be the best lookout to see some of the old arabic watchtowers from the 13th century. They were set along the coast and were part of the former coastal defense system of the Nasrid Emirate of Granada first, and the latter rule of the Catholic Monarchs.
After 30 kilometers we will take a detour towards the mountains to slowly begin the climb. We will ride then on a narrow path where we should mind our way through as we may encounter potential bumps on the pavement. In return, it will reward us with beautiful views of the avocado and mango fields, a typical landscape of the local subtropical climate.
From Benamocarra onwards, at about 43 kilometers from the start, the climb gets harder over 2 kilometers only to get easier after that in our way to Iznate. The climb is relatively easy and it only gets hard on the stretch following Benamocarra.
Once arrived to Iznate, we highly recommend a break at one of the bars before the centre of the village. Both in Benamocarra and Iznate there are water fountains visible to the naked eye where we can fill up our bidons and cool down.
Thanks to their people work, these small villages have learn how to keep the charming of the old times, with an urban layout from the Muslim era, houses built over rugged terrain beautifully decorated with flowerpots and a climate that switches subtropical fields for others such as almonds, olives or vines.
After reaching the top of the hill behind Iznate, the road follows the mountain down towards the same coastal road from the beginning.
Before going back to the city, we should not forget a bike ride to the seafront promenade of “El Cantal” that links Rincón de la Victoria with La Cala del Moral through a few tunnels carved out of the rock. These tunnels date from 1908 and used to have the railways connecting Velez-Malaga to Málaga City.
