Some pilgrimages come from divine inspiration when others proceed from terrestrial passions. Thus, when the Christian goes to Compostela, the faithful bicycle climbs of the Izoard with similar fervour; but whether one believes in God or in that devil of Fausto Coppi, it is in the wake of a calling greater than oneself, that one sets out.
In Europe, three chapels reconcile cycling and spirituality: the Madonna del Ghisallo on the shores of lake Como, Notre-Dame des Cyclistes in the French Landes and Nuestra Señora de Dorleta in the Spanish Basque Country.
Using the bicycle, this ‘most natural instrument given to man to prolong the effectiveness of his gesture’, as Antoine Blondin wrote, we will journey to connect the three significant chapels and document our efforts. Resulting in a story, with a series of photos that will bind into a book format.
