A short cycling travel route leads to the town of Almogía, whose name comes from Moorish times and is often translated as “the beautiful one”. The meaning still feels appropriate today when you arrive and see this traditional white village from the nearby viewpoints. The road leading there is no less rewarding, gradually opening up wide countryside views along the way.

This cycling route to Almogía is suitable for all types of bikes – road, trekking, gravel or e-bike – as the pavement is generally in very good condition, and the overall distance and elevation gain make it easily rideable on a single battery charge with modern, high-capacity e-bikes. The roads are mostly quiet, with little traffic throughout the ride. It’s an easy and rewarding option for a short bike trip from Málaga.

Serpentine road to Almogia – cyclingn routes from Malaga

To exit Málaga, we follow Calle Mármoles and Avenida Carlos Haya – the most direct route out of the city. Although this section includes traffic lights and urban traffic, it’s short and soon gives way to the calm country roads that make cycling travel in inland Andalusia so appealing.

As soon as we leave Málaga, the route shifts onto smaller roads with very little traffic. We turn toward Los Núñez, taking the A-7058 in the direction of Almogía.
Upon reaching the hamlet of Los Núñez, the climb begins. Don’t be intimidated by the first slopes – they are among the steepest of the day, but they don’t last long. Find a steady rhythm here, knowing that the gradient soon eases and allows you to ride more comfortably.

The road zigzags up a hillside surrounded by olive and almond trees, gradually gaining elevation with each turn. The effort is rewarded by the quiet surroundings and widening views across the countryside. After cresting the hill, a short descent leads you directly into Almogía.

Almogía marks the halfway point of this cycling journey. The village sits on a ridged slope, with whitewashed houses arranged in a maze of narrow, steep streets – a classic Andalusian pueblo blanco. From the main avenue, the town unfolds upward and downward, reflecting its dramatic setting. A perfect place for a coffee stop is Plaza de la Constitución, right in front of the Town Hall, where local life moves at an unhurried pace.

After a break, the bike route continues back toward Málaga. As you leave Almogía, you’ll find a water fountain on the left side of the road to refill bottles. A little further on, a nearby mirador (viewpoint) offers one of the best panoramic views of the village and the surrounding landscapes typical of southern Spain.

To return, we follow the MA-3402 back toward Málaga, avoiding the hill climbed earlier. This section offers a pleasant and quiet descent, with beautiful views over the Casasola lake, rounding off the ride in a relaxed and scenic way.
